Snow condition

In the valley head of the Grossarl Valley at just under 1000m, it looks sad despite the southerly location. You can only think about off-road riding from about 1500m upwards. It's really interesting that the differences to Friday can be so great over such a short distance. It feels like about 1/3 of the amount of snow.

Snow quality

Everything was there again today. Nevertheless, we mostly skied on fine powder or wild snow.

The LLB continues to warn of insidious snow packs on the Tauern main ridge. This is understandable and easily recognizable. Similar to Friday, however, most of the drift snow lies on a rock-hard layer, so that it is unlikely that the underlying weak layers will respond. The thickness of the drift snow was manageable and easy to manage.

Overall impression

I had actually already canceled today, expecting the approaching warm front to provide diffuse light early on. The view of a crystal-clear sky at breakfast made me change my plans and we were rewarded. Completely untracked cirque next to completely bombed-out terrain with very usable conditions. The weather and light conditions also held until we returned to the car in the early afternoon. This is how a short working week can start.
