Snow report Salzburger Land Süd, 02/17/2016

Grossarltal: Sun and (blown) fresh snow from the past few days, we chose the Ellmautal-Filzmooshörndl-Filzmoosalm-Loosbichl circuit as our introduction to an unknown touring area. Consistently easy, north-facing alpine pasture and meadow terrain.

Overall impression

Snow condition

2 von 5 Sterne

Directly in Grossarltal approx. 0-10 cm, at the parking lot in Ellmautal (approx. 1300m), 30-40 cmFilmoosalm (approx. 1700m): approx. 70-80 cmAlm area approx. 2000m: quite 1 m possible

Snow quality

2 von 5 Sterne

Dry fresh snow (from the night from Tuesday to Wednesday), quite loose in the forest area, above the tree line unfortunately clearly processed by yesterday's foehn (broken harsh snow, bearing harsh snow). In areas protected from the wind, nice turns are always possible, below the tree line sometimes really surprisingly good, hardly any stone contact (only when crossing blown-off ridges etc.).

Risks

Our chosen route is largely unproblematic. According to LWD 3 (due to drifts during yesterday's south föhn), own assessment (but we didn't dig anything up) rather 2No signs of avalanche activity to be observed

Overall impression

3 von 5 Sterne

Even if the individual ratings "necessarily" only deserve 2 stars each, the great terrain, the beautiful weather and the general wintry, snowy impression in combination with a few stretches with quite good conditions lead to the award of 3 points. And, in my opinion, deservedly so.P.S.: Overall, a very beautiful and extensive touring area with many possibilities
