Snow report Salzburger Land Süd, 02/25/2015
Very very PHÄT and very very dangerous in Sportgastein
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
I fluctuate between 2 and 3 stars. Basically everything is rideable, but this season's wind effects are unmistakable. Stone contact not always avoidable. Lots of undergrowth in the lower sections.
Snow quality
The stations showed little wind in the run-up, which was contrary to the weather forecast. But it turned out to be true and there was virtually the finest blower from top to bottom, averaging around 40-50cm. The south-facing slopes were stung by the sun in the afternoon.
Risks
Very, very tricky. Llb wrote of a tense 3 and that's how it was. Most of the fresh snow came to rest on bare, hard surfaces, the binding was poor. You could see many releases, many caused by skiers. We also triggered a larger snow slab, which was not unexpected and happened during testing. However, the size to which it developed was unexpected. A high proportion of dust with a corresponding run length, probably all the way down into the valley outside the ski area.
Overall impression
I would have given it 5 stars if it hadn't been so dangerous. Otherwise a mega day!
