Sportgastein unfortunately did not live up to expectations

Snow condition
The snow conditions in Sportgastein are ok. You can ski everything. The snowfall of the last few days brought around 40 to 50 cm of fresh snow. This precipitation came with very little wind. So much for the positive things.
Snow quality
Just in time for the start, a southerly wind set in and got stronger and stronger. The cold powder was blown around quite a bit and quickly got a wind cover. In sheltered corners, the fresh snow was fluffy and there were also face shots. All in all, however, this round went to the south wind and the rise in temperature didn't improve the snow quality. It could have been so good....
Risks
The southerly wind made the situation quite tricky. Some blasting was carried out in the area early in the morning. In the terrain, you could see the odd loose snowfall of small to medium size. In addition, visibility was partly restricted by clouds, which didn't make it any easier to assess the situation. We finished our off-piste activities around midday and drove home.
Overall impression
Unfortunately, the day was far from what we had hoped for. Without the strong southerly wind and with better visibility (in the summit area), today would certainly have been a very good day. It's crazy how many people were at the start early in the morning during the week.
