Firn ski tour in the Tauern
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
The snow conditions are slowly but surely becoming quite thin. A start below 1200 m is almost certainly associated with a longer carrying route. In the valley, the first animals are already back on the green meadow. It could get a bit uncomfortable for them over the next few days. The fresh snow that's coming is definitely necessary, as it's only the end of March.
Snow quality
Beautiful firn in the upper part, which became a bit slushy as the altitude dropped.
Risks
Quite relaxed. Classic spring conditions. Tours start early and finish early. Some larger wet snow slides have already started.
Overall impression
Nice sunny day with firn conditions. The increasingly strong southerly wind was a little unpleasant, but it brought much-needed precipitation.
