Summerskiing im Großarltal
Snow condition

Snow condition
You can still ski down to high starting points (>1300m) on the snow side. But it won't be possible for long. At high altitudes it should still be possible for a few weeks, but on the sunny side and in the main valley itself it looks relatively dreadful.
Snow quality
Much better than expected. The descent was on the N-NE side and above 1800-1900m beautiful firn or compact, soft summer snow. At the bottom it was slow slush. I waxed yesterday and it definitely paid off!
Risks
Easy to handle with the right time management. In the morning, the top is stable on the shaded side, sometimes with broken snow at the bottom. Other expos are already quite soft in the morning. I didn't ski anything steep today, but I could have done it in the morning (at least on the shaded side).
Overall impression
Very nice. Impressive inversions to observe in the south, snow was much better than feared and the wide terrain meant that there were still secluded areas to be found despite the many ski tourers. And no skis to carry! But summer can now transplant itself again and take the stupid foehn wind with it...
