Snow report Salzburger Land Süd, 04/01/2016
April skipped, is it already May? Ski tour in Grossarltal.

Snow condition
The warm temperatures of the last few days are really affecting the snow cover. We were out and about today in a north-westerly exposure. The amount of snow was sufficient except for a few interruptions (cleared forest path, very short forest sections). Could be more, of course, but was "still" sufficient at a starting altitude of 1300 m. Unfortunately, the season is more or less coming to an end on the south side. From a purely visual point of view, I would say the whole thing makes very little sense below 1800 m (at least with downhill demands).
Snow quality
Due to the clear night, a very thin cover formed despite the high temperatures. This was almost completely stable on the ascent. Thanks to good timing, it was not completely softened on the descent and it was halfway fun. Bottomless slush on the last few meters.
Risks
Unfortunately, the snow cover is not frozen through and only the top few centimetres have a load-bearing cover. Below that is bottomless slush. The cover dissolves very quickly in the "summer" temperatures. Start very early and end activities very early! Not nice spring conditions at the moment.
Overall impression
A leisurely ski tour with my father in a T-shirt without any other competitors and with halfway decent downhill conditions. Coffee and cake afterwards weren't bad either.
