Snow condition
We started today at about 1500 m in the Granatspitzgruppe (further west than Bergjunge yesterday). We spent the entire tour today facing north-east. Very good snow conditions right from the start. In recent years, we've always had to walk a few meters at this time, especially on the way back to the car (below 1650 m). This will remain good if the permanent summer does not break out. Above 2450 m we had the feeling that there were slightly more stones/rocks exposed than usual at this time (except last winter, when it was quite massive).
Snow quality
The snow was frozen on the entire ascent. Crampons were essential, especially on the steep sections. We set off at around 10:30 am. The quality of the firn was best the further east we went. Below 2000 m it was already quite soft everywhere, but not yet deep or boggy. Another fine firn day.
Risks
Classic spring conditions, start and finish early. Despite the high temperatures, it was only slowly warming up above 2500 m, but some larger wet snow avalanches have not yet disappeared this winter, meaning you shouldn't wait too long before setting off, as the dangers lurk at lower altitudes.
Overall impression
Another fine firn day. Fantastic weather, hardly any wind and few people on the mountain. This is what makes spring fun.
