2 days of tours in the Großglockner group: sunny weather, lots of wind, all types of snow and magnificent views

Snow condition
There is not much snow in the Glockner group. Below 1700 m it hardly makes sense to start tours on skis, even on the north side. Descents can be extended a few meters via avalanches. Things look even worse on the south side. We were only out and about in the northern area.
Snow quality
We had almost everything over the two days: set powder, wind cover, ice, broken snow, firn and slush. Timing is quite difficult due to the large differences in altitude. The starting points were higher than 3000 m and the finishes in the valley at around 1500 m. The wind delayed the firn formation and by 9 a.m., for example, the east-facing sections were already quite deep in slush. South-facing high alpine descents should also be started very, very early.
Risks
The wind has transported a lot of drift snow. We were able to see a snow slab with a width of approx. 150 m to 200 m yesterday. The three skiers were really lucky as they were all standing on a few square meters that didn't slide. Start very early and finish very early! Today we were in the valley at around 10 am and the last section was already very soft (north-east). Some of the wet snow avalanches are quite large.
Overall impression
We had two really great days in the Glockner massif. Possibly a nice end to the 15/16 winter season.
