Spring Skiing Stoke!
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
As expected, poor this season. Very long biking and carrying routes are to be expected, especially in the long northern valleys of the Tauern. Occasionally there is still a bit of snow below 2000m, but you should only expect enough snow on the snowy side above that.
Snow quality
Very cool, especially at the top. There was a bit of fresh snow (about 10-15cm), from about 2500m. It's warm, but nice to ride. It's partly on slush or deep rotten snow, very fun to ride with fat slats or a board! In the lower layers it's either summer firn (good) or warm slush, all in all better than expected.
Risks
Sunday night was probably quite warm plus rain and fresh snow. It didn't close up to the top either. We have seen a few descents, a larger one also triggered a board underneath (NE Expo). Steeper passages slide down easily as the weather warms up - slowly, but with considerable force, so it's important to keep an eye on the temperature, exposure and slope inclination.
Overall impression
Super nice spring skiing stoke!
After it was very dark, wet and white-out moderate at the beginning, then good visibility at the right time, but also too much warmth.
Very little going on, cool snow, great views and good company. What more could you want...
Oh yes, maybe wear a little less.
