Snow condition
The valleys are already lush green and of course free of snow. In the Obersulzbachtal, you have to walk for about 25 minutes before the snow starts to fall. In the Untersulzbachtal, the snow starts at a similar height. In general, you can say that the snow starts a few hundred meters below the north-facing glaciers. The glaciers still look well snow-covered and if it has frozen well and the snow cover is hard, the risk of crevasses falling should not be particularly high. In the afternoon in the sulz, the risk increases considerably, of course.
Snow quality
In the summit region we still had a bit of old powder hidden away. Otherwise great firn and a bit softer at the bottom. It might be a little difficult to get it perfect at all altitudes. It also took a relatively long time for it to firn up for us. Overall, one of the best firn tours this season.
Risks
The big avalanches in the valleys should be at the bottom, but of course you can't rule them out completely. Otherwise, the conditions are very favorable, although the diurnal variation should not be completely forgotten. However, the snow cover has already softened at all altitudes.
Overall impression
The contrast between the high mountains and the green meadows in the valley is simply beautiful. It's definitely worth going into the valleys by bike or cab, otherwise it's a lot less fun if you have to hike everything. It will be fine here in the high altitudes for a while yet and away from the mass tours you can go on beautiful and very lonely tours. The great thing about the current time is that so many mountain activities are possible at the same time. You can go climbing, biking and skiing. And best of all, all in one day.
