Below 2200 m, the possibilities for tours in the Hohe Tauern are very limited. Our starting altitude today was 2250 m. You can do something from this altitude. The choice of route depends in part on the best snow conditions. Today we were on the west and north exposures. The snow conditions are quite inhomogeneous due to the influence of the wind, making it very difficult to determine snow depths.

Snow quality

Surprisingly quite usable. On the glacier, despite the massive influence of the wind, there was set dull powder (drift snow). Below the glacier, you could find almost all types of snow, from powder and hard snow to windpack. All in all, however, quite usable.

Risks

Quite relaxed on our tour today. The main danger is in very steep high alpine terrain. Otherwise, the main danger comes from rocks and crevasses.

Overall impression

2 von 5 Sterne

Super windless and sunny weather, surprisingly few people out and about and still some decent turns, certainly not bad for the current conditions.

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
