Snow report Salzburger Land Süd, 12/30/2013
Skitour in den Hohen Tauern mit vielen Mitstreitern…
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Still far too little snow. The ski tour today was on a south-east flank. There was still enough snow to ski down without worrying too much about the snow conditions. However, contact with rocks cannot be avoided on one or two turns.
Snow quality
The sun already has plenty of power. The snow was already set. We may have been 1.5 to 2 hours late for the descent today. The snow was already getting heavier as we lost height. Nevertheless, it was still very solid skiing. Tomorrow there will already be a thin crust in the morning.
Risks
Warning level TWO today. I would confirm this. On steep leeward slopes you could see a few slopes of manageable size. The wind got stronger from midday in the summit area and you could see snow plumes on some peaks. In shady corners there were already a few cm of frost again.
Overall impression
Weathery day, unfortunately very busy, which is no surprise given the Christmas vacations. Leaving a few hours earlier would have been an advantage today.
