After yesterday was a good day, we went back to the Ankogel group today and skied north and northeast. Start today at approx. 1150 m, descent to the car possible without any problems. Around 30 cm of snow at the starting point, growing rapidly towards the top. Nevertheless, the alpine meadow terrain is still quite rough. It still needs quite a bit of snow there. Steeper south-facing slopes don't look so inviting either. It was quite warm today, and the snow on the sunny side was already quite wet and heavy on the ascent. Contrary to the forecast, there was virtually no wind (very weak at 2000 m).

Still very good on the pure snow side. Where the sun reaches better/more intensively, the snow is already damp and heavier. Places where the wind has been able to work are hard to icy. Over the next few days, you will only find good snow on the shaded side in corners protected from the wind.

Risks

Numerous sliding snow chutes can be seen from steep sunny sides. Steeper entrances into gullies and transitions from little to more snow should be assessed critically. LWS moderately suitable for >1800 m. In deeper, shady locations (dense forest), surface frost forms.

Overall impression

Another good day of touring. Nothing will change in the overall situation over the next few days. Good snow will only be found on the shaded side in corners protected from the wind, as temperatures are expected to rise further (+7 °C at 2000 m on Thursday).
