Snow report Salzkammergut mountains, 01/19/2017
Ski tour on the Zinken in very fine conditions! We actually wanted to go up the Genner and take a look at the northern flank. Due to the wind, however, we didn't do that. The eastern flank of the Genner is also quite blown in and looks tricky.

Snow condition
Super! really cool! I'm almost tempted to give away the 4th star. The Osterhorn group really got a lot of snow. About 1.5m of snow, maybe more in places. Everything is rideable. Even in the forest it's a dream and ground contact is impossible!
Snow quality
On the south side, as everywhere else, there is a light crust. In the forest aisles on the shaded side you'll find set powder, still knee-deep. Simply a dream to ski. At the top it is partly blown off and a bit wind-worked.
Risks
Strong winds from the south to southwest are blowing the powder around quite a bit. Large snow plumes on summits and ridges. Areas blown in should definitely be avoided. The LLB says it's a 2. But I don't think they expected so much wind. In the north and east exposures it's definitely very dangerous, and the usual snow mouths are opening up on the south side.
Overall impression
Great ski tour in really great weather with a really good powder descent. More of this please!
