Sufficient, but still sad. The Loser is normally one of the snowiest areas in Austria (especially in winters with a lot of snow in the north), but this year the northern snow jam was often absent and instead of Mrs. Holle, the sun and rain were more active. Nevertheless, there are some nice, albeit (too) short slopes in the snow hollows at the top of the Loser.

Firn, but it has to be caught at the right time. Starting in the early morning until late morning: east, then southeast, then south. Exposures that tend to be shady remain snowy or crusty.

Risks

Day's progress! On steep south-facing slope crossings, wet sluff was particularly difficult in the morning.

Overall impression

A nice end to a short ski touring trip, which was of course dominated by the Corona lockdown. The Loser itself surprises with its diversity and was able to demonstrate its potential even in difficult conditions and comparatively low snow depth. The great views of the Dachstein and Grimming were clearly clouded by the Sahara dust.

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!

Thank you for your contribution to the PowderGuide project!
