Snow condition
Acceptable snow conditions in the Schmirntal. Skiing down to the valley is possible without any problems, above 2000m it gets considerably worse. In the sparse forest and in snow corridors it is also good further down, in the dense forest you probably need a little more to ski without danger.
Snow quality
Good powder snow throughout, from the summit to the parking lot. There was hardly any wind on the north and north-east sides, but there was considerably more wind on the west-side ascent.
Risks
Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)
On the south-facing meadow slopes, there were a few sliding snow avalanches that were quite considerable in size. Otherwise, the snow cover below 2200m made a stable impression, we didn't go any higher. There you probably have to pay more attention to drift snow and the possible old snow problem.
Overall impression
Unfortunately, we started the winter season a little late, but got off to a good start and made the most of the powder snow before the rain at low altitudes probably ruined a lot of it.
