Exposition
Snow condition
On the south side, more and more "islands" are petering out, especially ridges and similar areas where the wind has blown off a lot throughout the winter. Lots of snow in the forest or in the accumulation areas of the storms (hollows etc.). The chosen descent route (Schneeries) has a narrow section that tends to snow out. At the moment, however, this section is still very well snowed in, as is the run-out of the gully (which often snows out early due to the south-facing location and the low altitude of only 1200 to 1300m). Avalanche nodules were limited and were only restricted to one half of the run-out.
Snow quality
Sun-exposed firn in the morning. Hard on the shaded side (top) or still soft on old snow (sheltered from the wind). Now it's time to choose the right entry times for the respective exposures.
Risks
Wind intensity: Low (< 20 km/h)
Risk of slipping or falling. Wet snow avalanches with the forecast warming during the day. Danger of sliding snow avalanches on the steep boundary flanks of the Lohmgraben (sliding snow cracks in the Bösen Stieg flank are getting wider and wider).
Overall impression
Springtime is gully time! Very good conditions (firn) in the sun-exposed gullies in the area at the moment. The corresponding time planning for ascent and descent is critical (today approx. 12h was - thanks to a very cold night - just ok).
