Snow condition
Unfortunately, even in the furthest reaches of the Pitztal it doesn't look much different than on the other glaciers. The freeride and touring options are unfortunately very limited, with a few crevasses and/or rocks still lurking. In my opinion, the snow conditions are sufficient for the Schuchtkogel if you choose a good route, although you shouldn't do without a rope + glacier equipment here either and it's best to avoid the crevasse zones. In any case, it is definitely more recommendable than a ski tour to the Wildspitze at the moment, which has already been attempted on a large part of the route despite very open crevasses.
Snow quality
We still found amazingly good powder snow. Despite the relatively mild temperatures, the snow held up well on the north and east sides, thanks to the very dry air and not too much sun. There was a bit of wind in places, but it didn't really affect the skiing fun.
Risks
Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)
Falling crevasses are still the main danger at the moment. A few impressions of the open crevasse zones on the way to the Wildspitze can be found in the picture gallery, if you want to get a better overview.
Overall impression
We took advantage of the nice weather and the still good snow for a relatively flat, but nice tour up the Schuchtkogel. With the current snow conditions, it's not easy to find a tour destination that doesn't end in a slalom through crevasses or broken skis/boards. I was pleasantly surprised by the tour, enough powdery snow for a good descent, but not too much, so that the flat passages didn't really have to be pushed.
