Overall impression
Variants and ski tours are possible with restrictions above approx. 1600m. Snow conditions are significantly better compared to the main ridge and Northern Alps, but due to the topography and karst (sinkholes), even more would be desirable. For the classics, e.g. the Okno (window), we still need +1m snowpack. Avalanche warning signs are present in many places (cracks, old fractures, drift snow on the Slovenian side). Snow quality varies from powder to slightly compressed to light melting crust after sunstroke. A wintery atmosphere with sunshine and a view of the Adriatic gives it 4 stars. Be careful with all the sinkholes, one rescue operation from the area near the piste on Fri and Sat alone!
