After the very wet, massive snowfall last week, another 10-20cm of cold powder from Sunday to Monday. Just enough snow at the saddle to start from the road. From about 1500m upwards the snow conditions are great (>1.5m), above about 1800m extremely good (>2.5m).

Snow quality

2 von 5 Sterne
Hard, pressed snow
Breakable crust
Wet snow
Powder snow
Wind drifted snow

Wet snow very far up on Monday, tough cement at the bottom. The whole thing started to freeze over in the afternoon - not good. The very cold night from Mon to Tue was able to draw some moisture above about 1800, so there was cold but unfortunately wind-pressed snow. Cement still underneath (now hardened).

Wind drifted snow

South South-West West

Intensity: medium

Above: 2000 m

Risks

Abort the tour
Diurnal warming
Much fresh snow
North-Eas East

Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)

On Monday, a full 4 above the tree line in all exposures. There were many, very large and high snow slab crowns to be seen, tw again clearly snowed in - almost all of them have probably already gone under the snowfall. Correspondingly, there were nodules in the gullies and at the foot of the slopes. 3s on Tuesday.

Overall impression

3 von 5 Sterne
Better

On the trail of the betting game and quickly explored Sella Nevea and the Ghost Resort in Bovec. Limited operation on the Italian side due to 4-seater, no operation at all on the Slovenian side this year, which seems somewhat paradoxical given the 3m of snow at the mountain stations. Mega ambience and great terrain. For the variant through Okno (rock window), the avalanche situation and snow quality were still not good enough on day 2 - so it remains on the bucket list.
