Snow report Sölden, Ötztal, 01/05/2017
Windy day in blown-off Obergurgl
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Unfortunately, hardly any possibility to ski down into the valley. In very deep, sheltered locations, about 20 cm of fresh snow without a base. But already a bit higher and very strong winds in all exposures. Actually, everything has blown off. So this snowfall probably doesn't even serve as a base.
Snow quality
Unaffected in very few places in the forest. Otherwise the storm did a great job.
Risks
Faa danger sign wind is omnipresent. The problem of old snow is also likely to be widespread. Due to the lack of snow, however, hardly any freeriding is possible. This is probably also why we were unable to observe any snow slabs. However, the snow that has been transported certainly poses a risk for the future.
Overall impression
As expected, less snow than in the north. The extent of the snow drifts was surprising. It may be a while before the freeride season really starts in the rear Ötztal...
