Snow condition

The snowfall of the past few weeks has now settled well. Although there is no longer the amount of snow in the valley that you would expect when the whole valley is closed, there is still enough snow. There is around 30-50cm in the valley, and further up we are reaching over 2 meters depending on the exposure. Descents down to the valley are currently possible without any problems.

The fresh snow from Thursday (approx. 20 cm) has now settled. However, the cold temperatures of the last few days have preserved it well. On the south side, however, a light crust could be felt under the fresh snow. Depending on the exposure, the snow was either still very fluffy or partially blown away.

Risks

According to the LLB, warning level 2 in the area today. Apart from a few isolated slopes that were filled with drifting snow, the snow cover has settled very well and made a stable impression. This was also the opinion of the LLB today, which is why it was justifiable for us to ski steeper slopes today. In the gullies where we skied today, we found settled powder snow and a stable snowpack. Only in the terrain close to the ridge was there some drift snow. When, after a short ascent on the Gaißlachkogel, we wanted to ski down the south side towards Silbertal, we decided to turn back at this point due to a short snow profile and the obvious drift snow in the upper part.

We didn't have the biggest powder runs today, but we were able to ski some lines that have been on our to-do list for a while.

Note on Conditions Reports
