Snow report Sölden, Ötztal, 02/04/2021
Katastrophale Bedingungen um Vent
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Generally not bad at all, but very poor in places due to the extreme influence of the wind. Even at almost 2800m, you still had to dodge the stones in places, even if you stayed away from ridges or ridges. Where the wind was/is not so strong, you can ski down into the valley.
Snow quality
Catastrophic slush with slab formation and everything that goes with it, which turns directly into swamp. Even the pistes, which were prepared in the still closed ski area, were frozen as hard as a rock due to the strong foehn wind. Only on the south/southwest side was it halfway reasonable to ski on the slopes.
Risks
Very strong winds have led to numerous, widespread drifts. Coupled with the problem of old snow and daytime warming, this is an unpleasant combo.
Overall impression
Ski tours in the (rear) Ötztal are currently anything but rewarding in terms of skiing. It could be that there are better conditions further up (or on the north side), but we didn't venture out above 2800m and stayed almost exclusively in the south sector.
So at least we had a bit of sun on our faces ;-)
The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.
Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
