Snow report Sölden, Ötztal, 12/06/2015
Ski day on the slopes in Obergurgl Hochgurgl
Snow condition

Overall impression
Snow condition
Hardly any snow. On the slopes you get the feeling that it's just artificial snow. Ribbons down to the valley on the south side, even well above 2000m above sea level, nothing. Hardly any snow on the north side either. Even on the artificial snow slopes, the snow cover is thin and below the middle stations you have to reckon with stones and completely snowless spots.
Snow quality
Artificial snow, mostly very hard. Frozen in the morning. A little softer in the afternoon as it has thawed. Everything is also very uneven because of the little snow. You always have to reckon with completely icy slabs.
Risks
No snow, no avalanches. However, glacier spades are wide open and anyone looking for a snow band between rocks should not ignore the danger posed by the bare rocks everywhere.
Overall impression
Until the next snowfall, that's probably it for me. Despite the fantastic weather, the little artificial snow is hardly any fun. And looking for the next slab of ice between running snow cannons isn't really fun in the long run. Before you can even think about freeriding, you still need a lot more snow.
