The last admission to the park is at 11:00 a.m. After about an hour of brisk walking, we reach the continuous snow cover and can start our hike from here. The ascent leads out of the now sparse trees and above the tree line. By 12:30, the snow is already softer, and deep footprints from hikers are visible in the snow. The ascent leads to the left of the Chufquen volcano up through a sort of cirque until, at the end, we veer left and turn toward the remaining approximately 100 hm to the viewpoint overlooking the Sollipolli crater. The strong wind at the top forces us to find a more sheltered resting spot. On the descent, the snow is now completely saturated and very slow to traverse, but the terrain is incredibly impressive and beautiful with the araucaria trees. The descent to the park entrance takes 30 minutes, and we take a quick dip in the nearby pools.
