Midtfjellet went from the parking lot (just the end of the more or less cleared path in the middle of the forest) with skis. The start was at about 400 meters and the tour was north-facing. The first part of the tour is very flat, which means that as soon as there is no more snow at the parking lot, you have a long way to go. This will soon be the case, at the bottom it is very patchy. The starting point at Omnetinden was similar, parking lot at about 400 meters and the tour was north-facing. However, we skied up to 700 meters and were just able to slide sideways down to 570 meters. According to the literature, carrying skis is an integral part of ski touring in the region. According to locals, it is normal at this time of year for the snow to only start at around 700 meters. However, the snow cover is usually thicker.

On 29.4. at Midtfjellet (once again) not worth mentioning. Last week the wind was very strong again. Everything was pressed hard, at least the top was not broken in the upper part. From about halfway down the descent onwards, it was again a deluxe of broken snow. On 30.4. at Omnetinden north side hard but skiable and in a south-facing slope nice spring snow. We were a bit late at 3 pm, but it was still great for surfing.

Risks

The drift snow can still be a problem locally in steep terrain. For the most part, however, conditions are stable, and around Omnetinden a lot has been done in the last few days with 40 degrees and more. You'd have to take a closer look on site, but I think it's basically acceptable at the moment. Another interesting aspect here is how the strong wind affects the terrain on the slopes. There are often huge cornices in the middle of the slope, which you rarely see to this extent in the Alps. So you shouldn't rely purely on the steepness and terrain shapes on the map.

Midtfjellet was worth it for the fantastic view alone. Omnetinden was a great ski tour overall. At the current level, the carrying passage even improves the overall experience

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
