Snow condition
I had actually finished touring at home, but apparently Ullr had a guilty conscience and so up to 30 cm of fresh snow had accumulated by the early afternoon. As is so often the case this winter, this snow was lying on wet ground that was too shallow or on a thin layer of old snow. Where there was still snow, you can still think about serious skiing. 1 star, as it is quickly over again as temperatures rise.
Snow quality
In the first phase of precipitation, the temperatures were around freezing point and only dropped as the precipitation progressed. As a result, you didn't notice a hard base in corners sheltered from the wind and the snow was fine to ride on. Just about 3 stars.
Wind drifted snow
Intensity: medium
Risks
Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)
The wind picked up in the afternoon and moved the fresh snow around. There was also sleet in the last phase of precipitation. The last few centimetres slid off or were easily disturbed on the ascent. Terrain traps posed the greatest danger today. LWS moderate, from 2000 m considerable.
Overall impression
An unexpected and lonely day of touring. The longer lunch break was worth it today (3 stars).
