Exposition
Snow condition
In the uppermost Upper Engadine, about 80 cm of fresh snow on Saturday morning, then another 30 cm by Sunday morning. The further down the Inn, the less fresh snow. There was also enough base, so that you can ski in the forest and elsewhere below 2,500 m without hesitation. Only wind-exposed ridges and crests at high altitudes are sometimes only slightly covered in snow and it can happen that you uncover a stone.
Snow quality
Yesterday in the forest we had to stop every few turns during the first run to catch our breath. Then it settled a bit but we still skied the full 80 cm of fresh snow, it was really sensational. Today we ventured a little higher, it wasn't so extremely deep, but it was wonderful cold powder.
Risks
Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)
SLF had issued a 3+. Where we were out and about, we assessed the situation rather more favorably. No spontaneous or triggered boards observed (not even today with better visibility) and no cracks or booming noises (before those in the Bullettin). All the fresh snow fell with little or no wind. However, the south-westerly wind has picked up significantly since midday today and has also already transported snow, which will certainly be relevant tomorrow.
Overall impression
Engadin madness, yesterday was an all-time forest day, today we went bouldering and were rewarded, at least in part, with super lines in more alpine terrain. I've never given it 5 stars before but now I can't avoid it. With the next südstau alert already in the starting blocks, it should be great here.
