Snow report St. Moritz / Engadine, 05/14/2016
Piz Palü east/main summit
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Crevasses well covered in snow. There is still snow on the Bernina Pass to ski down.
Snow quality
In the morning up to 3200m a bearing cover which then firned up in the afternoon. Above 3400m dream powder 20cm to the summit. Ridges are currently in the best conditions (stomping snow), no bare ice.
Risks
In the afternoon, wet snow slides from steep, sunlit flanks observed on the route, but no danger from falling ice due to the cold temperatures
Overall impression
Super sunshine, partly windy but no more than 30km/h for Piz Palü, few people and top powder turning into firn. What more could you want and even climbed the main summit.
