Snow condition

Acceptable snow conditions in the high Alps. North faces with good snow conditions, also other gullies and rockier flanks (north side) look quite good. Everything more exposed to the sun and a little further down (< 2600m) unfortunately looks worse.

Breakable crust
Powder snow
Jelly snow

On steep north-facing slopes, fine, settled powder snow with hardly any wind influence. Unfortunately, everything else offers less skiing fun. There is a cover almost everywhere, sometimes more and sometimes less stable. At altitude (> 3200m), the snow is still powdery on the north side, but with a light wind cover. During the course of the day, the snow becomes wet on the north side except in the high Alps.

Risks

South

Wind intensity: Low (< 20 km/h)

Wet snow below 2800m and drift snow above. To our surprise, the best snow with the least wind influence was on the steep northern flanks, where there was settled powder snow. Which is why we spontaneously decided on the spot to ski 2 northern flanks. Drift snow had already settled well due to mild temperatures and radiation. However, there were avalanches of quite powerful proportions on the faces.

Overall impression

Worse

Spontaneous "steep face" day in the northern flanks of Zuckerhütl and Pfaffenschneid. Super powder and settled snow cover. Did 2 laps to make the most of the conditions. Unfortunately much less rewarding in all other exposures. Some skiers struggled to get down and complained about broken snow. As a boarder with some speed, it even felt more like firn #speedisyourfriend

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
