Snow condition
The snow all the way down to the valley looked beautiful, but up to just under 3,000 meters, the total snow depth was mostly only 5–10 cm. Most of the precipitation fell as rain up to 3,000 meters before it got colder as the precipitation ended. At 3,200 meters, there was about 30 cm in areas not exposed to wind.
Snow quality
There was usually quite a bit of wind on the glacier, but the cold powder was still easy to ride, and you could also find areas less affected by the wind. However, the surface must be completely smooth ice; the total snow depth isn't enough to cover any significant unevenness in the ice.
Risks
Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)
The main dangers come from sharks and crevasses—due to the thin snow cover, most of them are still clearly visible.
Overall impression
I did a few short laps over 3,000 meters on the glacier. Unfortunately, most of the touring options on the glacier at the start of the season have melted away in recent years and have become impossible due to rock barriers.
