The snow conditions down to the valley leave nothing to be desired, with good skiing up to the valley station at 1700m. Further up, however, it looks completely different thanks to the stormy wind: Heavily blown-off ridges, ridges and sometimes even bare ice. Blown-in hollows and less wind-affected slopes are much better.

Snow quality

Everything between zero and three stars. Sunny slopes all have a cap that is more or less stable. On the north side, you can still find settled powder on less wind-affected slopes. However, as you can see from the pictures, the wind influence is omnipresent and even on the north side the snow is no longer ideal for skiing.

Risks

Relatively relaxed situation in the Stubai Valley. The drifted snow has settled well. Of course, one or two wet snow avalanches can occur on south-facing slopes during the course of the day, as reported by the LWD: At the parking lot of the Stubai Glacier, a huge wet snow avalanche broke loose around 3 p.m., which descended onto the partially closed parking lot and partially buried several cars and one person.

Overall impression

3 von 5 Sterne

The conditions in the Stubai Valley are not really good at the moment. Very changeable snow, strong winds and the high temperatures meant that we had to limit our planned multi-day hut tour to an overnight stay in the Siegerlandhütte.
Nevertheless, it was a nice tour, we also had good snow in between and the winter room at the Sigerlandhütte is a dream anyway ;-)
