Some fresh snow on the Stubai Glacier
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Extremely poor here too. Above Gamsgarten, with the exception of very wind-exposed areas, you can definitely ski off-piste, but stone contact is only excluded/rarely possible in very snow-covered areas (and on the glacier surfaces), otherwise you can get through from time to time. further down there is not enough snow at the back and front, depending on the exposure, there is only fresh new snow here (almost 30cm at the highest lifts, about 15 cm at the valley station). can't remember having experienced so little snow in the Stubai in March.
Snow quality
The fresh snow was a little damp even at the top, but still really good to ski. Much less wind-affected than I would have expected, most of the fresh snow must have fallen after yesterday's storm, and sometimes you can get through on the very rutted and hard surface, but generally the snow quality wasn't a problem today.
Risks
Zero visibility, therefore not easy to assess. Less wind in the fresh snow than expected, but practically everything was still bound. We were only out and about on flatter terrain and I would advise everyone to do the same, bearing in mind that the snow conditions are very poor as soon as you enter glaciated terrain (it feels like December). The crevasses are certainly not properly snowed in.
Overall impression
Quite nice, unfortunately no visibility and all in all very little snow.
