Ski touring week in Sellrain
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
... quite poor. But the Sellrain isn't known for being particularly snowy either - yesterday morning there was another 10cm of fresh snow in Praxmar. Otherwise it looks rather modest, especially on the south side. Free choice of route is often not possible and you constantly have to avoid blown-off terrain. Stone contact, largely avoidable with a careful driving style. Up to Praxmar/Lüsens you can just about ski down.
Snow quality
There's everything from north-facing powder to south-facing grassy slopes. Often wind-capped, the hurricane on Sat. was not as bad as predicted. On the south side often with harsch cover.
Risks
Currently rather high, mainly due to drifting snow and various weak layers in the snowpack. Weak layers in the snowpack. The drift snow packs can be triggered very easily and are now covered by fresh snow. We made several ECTs that confirmed this. The weak layer close to the ground from early winter, on the other hand, is difficult to trigger.
Overall impression
There is far too little snow for the time of year, but it is still possible to go on useful ski tours.
