Snow condition
As often mentioned, the upper area has some of the best snow conditions of the whole season. But you can't get into the valley at all due to the rain and have to carry for a relatively long time. The last rainy night destroyed a lot of snow here. It should stay like this further up for a while.
Snow quality
It didn't radiate at all and was therefore soaked from early in the morning. Up to 2700m it was still possible to ride properly in the morning, below that it became extremely slow. But it got better as the day progressed. Just a few cosmetic wet cm of fresh snow. You didn't miss a thing today.
Risks
Since Friday, I've been quite critical of the whole thing. Everything is really soaked and there are a lot of wet boards coming down, mostly caused by loose snow avalanches. Especially when the sky is overcast, you shouldn't go off-piste at the moment. I also expect some big avalanches down into the valleys in the next few days. It's better to wait a few days until Wednesday or Thursday until the whole thing has calmed down a bit and the big parts are down. With the temperatures forecast for the next few days, other activities are probably the better choice. Also bear in mind the stored sleet. Today it has also been sleeting again and again, but this will probably be destroyed by the high temperatures, nevertheless sleet is simply an issue in the unstable weather situation. When we move out, of course, we'll have to pay attention to the diurnal cycle again. Hopefully it will be again! 2 weeks of high pressure would be good now!
Overall impression
The rain has destroyed a lot at low altitudes. It's still good at higher altitudes. Now we just need the right weather so that we can do something. It's now spring season on the glacier and only the Gamsgarten lift is still running. Ruderhof Süd still looked quite good in terms of snow conditions. You have to ski until just above the mountain pine belt. Guess it will soon be longer too.
