"Golden fall" on the glacier
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Off-piste, the snow depth has decreased considerably due to the warm weather. Some of the south-facing slopes are once again bare. The very warm summer is still omnipresent. The crevasses are very wide open and you can see rocks that never seemed to be there or are nowhere near as high.
Snow quality
The wind has contributed to the deterioration of the snow quality. The slopes are also very windswept and therefore often hard and icy. Ice and stones keep coming through due to the low snow depth. The descent to the middle station is open, but doesn't look very inviting. The snow is only really white in a few places.
Risks
No level according to the LWD, interestingly the display boards in the area show a 2. Avalanche danger seems quite low to me. Other dangers are very high in early winter, such as crevasse falls and injuries from exposed rocks! Although you unfortunately see this again and again (even in the current grotty conditions), you haven't lost anything off-piste yet.
Overall impression
The golden autumn is marred by wind, icy slopes and lots of people. There is less snow outside the pistes again, you haven't lost anything there yet. On the slopes, it's quite icy at the beginning and there's not much snow on ice and rock in places. We can only hope that there will be plenty of snow in the second half of November.
