Snow conditions are good in the Ortler region, we were in the Martelltal valley (start 2050m), here you can hardly find fault with the snow conditions.
Snow quality
On Tuesday it snowed about 20 cm in the Martelltal at the Zufallhütte and about 30 cm on the summits. Unfortunately there was a lot of wind on Tuesday and Wednesday. On our tour we only had one slope that had powder, and this was rather blown in, all the other slopes were rather blown off or had a wind-pressed layer of powder. We could see some nice tracks on the north-facing slopes, where the snow quality should be better....
Risks
The 3s that had been issued could sometimes be seen in large snow packs, but with good touring and track selection there was still a lot possible.
Overall impression
Beautiful tour in a wonderful panorama, the Martell Valley is always worth a trip.
