Exposition
Snow condition
Weak for the Sonnenkopf. There is a massive lack of snow. There is hardly any snow left on some south-facing slopes. Classic descents are still interspersed with rocks, which are normally gone in January, but you can still ski quite a lot. There are certain difficulties in the valley. Without pistes etc. it can be tight. The valley descent is at its limit.
Snow quality
It's all there, but it changes every 10m. When you think it's going well now, the conditions are different 100m further on. Drift snow is quite good to ski, but only works in flat terrain. The slopes that normally don't get much wind were already heavily groomed this afternoon. It'll be exciting from tomorrow when there's a lot of fresh snow.
Risks
Wind intensity: High (40 – 60 km/h)
Lots of wind, constant and strong. There were huge flags on the ridges. Of course, that makes you alert for the next few days. But there were still some good runs this morning. I think it will be hot from tomorrow onwards. The loads were quite large throughout the day
Overall impression
Three good runs over the day. 1000m first line, what more could you want. Sure, the snow could be better, but blue skies, nice runs and a good breeze on the face. What more could you want?
