Snow report Tannheimer Valley, 02/01/2020
end of season ???
Snow condition

Overall impression
Snow condition
i've never experienced such a drastic change from winter (cold, all white and approx. 20cm pow, right down to the valley) to spring (hardly any snow on the south side, the dirt is sticking out on the ski slopes, snow cover approx. -20cm at all altitudes and expos, not frozen through on the south side despite a radiant night and deep rotten snow everywhere) in just 1 day. the conditions are worse than before the last snowfall and with the forecast of heavy rain and high temperatures, the season is over. if it doesn't snow down massively next wed. down to about 1000m, it will be a reset to nov. 2019!
Snow quality
it must have been cold in the valley tonight, with an icy surface, some of which was bearing. from about 1400m upwards, it probably stopped freezing and the snow was wet and deep. on the south side, it was even deep for no reason. there's no more pow anywhere.
Risks
wet snow and sliding snow will probably remain the topic until mo. we triggered a lot of wet new snow on the descent. on the south side, spring conditions today, already from the early morning hours. we weren't out and about in other expos. but i suspect an unpleasant hardpack there. i can fully confirm the tiroler 3er, with wet snow and drifting snow on the slopes.
Overall impression
very nice weather today, at least until noon. some bushes are already blooming in the valleys. quite bizarre to look at. but that's all the positives.
very unpleasantly strong wind from the north-west on the ridges. rotten snow on the descent and some of the ski slopes are already bare. all in all, you can still make sensible tours, but you need a ski slope to get back down to the valley. i wonder how much snow will fall in the coming week?
