Snow report Tannheimer Valley, 02/02/2019
overnight everything changed again
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
absolutely sufficient. from pp, to summit, to pp, no obstacles or stones, everything very well snowed in. free choice of route possible everywhere (except where sliding snow avalanches have occurred).
Snow quality
well, yes !!! there was everything from fresh concrete to pow. but the pow was quite heavy. it probably rained overnight in the south-eastern part of the tannheimer valley up to about 1,200m. above that there was at least 10cm of fresh snow, but it was quite wet and heavy. above 1,600m it's fun, below that you sometimes collapse (especially where the sun hit yesterday and the day before yesterday).especially where the sun shone yesterday and the day before yesterday) and even further down there's this "universally appreciated" fresh concrete with its rather peculiar skiing characteristics. with the predicted fresh snow and the cooling down tomorrow it will be completely different again.
Risks
the 3er above the forest border is ok. we saw loose snow slides and on the descent, in steeper areas, we also triggered these legendary "wagon wheels". there were also sliding snow mouths and descents, but nowhere near as much as in the western lechtal.
Overall impression
after the sun came out (briefly) at the summit and the descent at the top was quite good, i give it 2 stars, for a quite nice alternative to the actually planned tour.
