Snow report Tannheimer Valley, 02/06/2020
not finished, but worse than before ...
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
white, from approx. 800m. snow depth, with which you can also do something in the terrain, there is below 2000m, rather no more. exception, where it is dangerous, in blown-in gullies and hollows. today i was on the north, east and south side, in the area from approx. 1000m to just below the forest border, in the so-called eastern allgäu foothills. the white also has the great disadvantage that all the stones, roots, ... are snowed in on the surface and you can no longer see them, but then you can feel them all the more clearly. almost every turn you push through the totally icy old snow cover. depending on how the wind has worked, there is sometimes more or less pow on top.
Snow quality
very cold in the shade today (still). therefore good, light, pow. on the south side it was more like spring again and there the snow will certainly have a cap tomorrow. but it doesn't matter, it will soften up again at some point anyway and the day after tomorrow we will certainly have spring conditions again on the south side.
Risks
the bayer. 2s fits. even in 35° terrain, nothing was triggered. overall, the snow cover makes a pretty stable impression. no chocks have broken off, no cracks, and no whamming noises have been heard. there is some sluff on the north side. but it runs out relatively quickly. there is also a lot of sleet in the fresh snow. but i don't think it's a coherent, extensive layer.
Overall impression
very nice weather (1st star), it looks wintry white again (2nd star). but unfortunately there's no more, because the situation is worse than before the big rain.
it will be interesting to see what the predicted hurricane from mo. will bring. it's supposed to be warm again.
so, go skiing until next week, maybe it will be even worse afterwards.
