Snow report Tannheimer Valley, 02/15/2021
goodbye winter !!!
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
in the mountains, east of the iller, there is significantly less snow. today, just enough, but certainly not for much longer. at about 900m there is still about 10cm of snow and it was already well above zero today. since all the relevant tours are over after the weekend and the weather, from about 11am it wasn't so great either, so today we're doing something smaller, close to the piste, on the last day of winter for the time being. off the "piste" and in the forest, there's not much left below 1200m. grass is already peeking out everywhere. but at 1600m there's still a good 30cm.
Snow quality
still powdery in the shade, but now very heavy. there was no more sun today anyway, so the sun-side cover is not really softened.
Risks
there's not enough snow below 1600m for all kinds of avalanches. it was still too cold for wet snow slides. so it was pretty relaxed at this altitude today.
Overall impression
it still looks pretty wintry in the valley. but that will change significantly below 1000m in the coming days. then you have to go higher up to start the tour. that's not so easy anymore in the allgäu because of the lockdown. so the tour pressure on such "starting possibilities" will increase even more. it's a shame, but that's it for me for now. for the next 2 weeks, spring is the order of the day.
