Snow condition
The amount of snow is of course rather small overall. But you can still start from the valley. Due to the warm days in the middle of the week, things are now looking bad on the sunny side and many south-facing slopes are bare. During the snowfall from Thursday to Friday, there were around 4-5 centimetres in the Tannheimer Tal (valley floor). At around 1800m above sea level, there was still about 10cm of powder snow on a hard base today.
Snow quality
The snow quality exceeded all expectations. The finest powder snow can be found. These 5-10cm of powder snow lie on a hard layer of harsh snow and were brilliant to ski on. The sun only came out briefly today in the afternoon and so it should remain mostly powdery for Saturday.
Risks
The crests, ridges and even entire slopes were heavily blown off and the influence of the stormy wind was obvious. In addition, old wet snow slides from the last three warm days could be observed from steep, near-ridge and rocky terrain.
Overall impression
We had a nice powder snow family outing. What's more, the conditions for tomorrow in the Tannheimer Tal and the Außerfern are sure to be very cool.
