Snow report Tannheimer Valley, 02/28/2020
gestern war ich wohl etwas zu optimistisch
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
well, that's about it. everything is white in the valley, about 5cm at 1000m, but the following applies without restriction: watch out for sharks.above that, up to below the forest line, then quickly about >30cm. i.e. either nothing has been added since yesterday, or bianca has blown everything away.
Snow quality
on the south side there was already a light cap today. on the north side, not influenced by the wind, great pow. in the ridges everything is glazed or blown in. the wind cap breaks when swinging.
Risks
safe below the tree line. the extensive drifting snow is holding up quite well up to 35°. above that there is a lot of drifting snow. today there are also snow plumes on many peaks and ridges.
Overall impression
i was on the schönkahler today, from the narrow part and i would advise not to do this tour at the weekend. there is absolutely no base and lots of stones on the towpath. then there are 4 large windswept areas (see pictures). you can only get over them if you climb over the logs and that looks quite dangerous, as steep as they are. in addition, everything is already completely rutted up in the gully above and also capped in the lower part. better pick another tour.
the best thing today was the weather. little wind and bluebird from 12h. in the sun it's already spring again. tomorrow will definitely not be better.
