Snow report Tannheimer Valley, 03/02/2026
Take care on even rather easy ski tours after night-time radiation!
Snow condition

Overall impression
Altitude
2000 - 4800m
Avalanche warning level
low (1)
Exposition
Snow condition
sufficient from approx. 1600m, below that rather little! Descent into the valley only makes sense via ski slope!
Snow quality
There is only snow in Expo-S, everything else is still not getting enough sunlight. After it thawed yesterday up to 2000m and then a night of radiation, everything in Expo-N is comparable to bare ice. Crampons and a very good skiing technique are therefore obligatory even on rather easy routes (today: Ponten)!
Risks
Wind intensity: No Wind (0 km/h)
Danger of falling in all Expos, with N!
Avalanche activity
Wet snow avalanche (small)
Altitude: 1700 m
All expos with N! Old snow problem still mandatory!
Overall impression
I was on the Ponten today (a rather easy tour, normally!) and quite surprised by the current conditions! Up to approx. 1600m (=Stuibenalpe) the piste helps, but not for much longer! Above that, quite decent wet snow avalanches are an issue. However, these can be avoided if you choose the right route! Above that it was rather "unusual" today! Everything above the "stone" was comparable to bare ice. Without crampons, it's quite a challenge and the descent requires a very safe skiing technique on hard snow! With the current weather forecast, the snow below 1600m should quickly become less and the ski & bike season in the area should be a good idea. However, the following information should be noted! I expect quite similar conditions in the Oytal. Ostrachtal see, picture 4!
