Exposition
Snow condition
from the pp (about 1000m) it doesn't even look like that much, but there's at least 40cm of fresh snow (on nothing), even in the forest (pic2) !!! that will quickly become more and at 1500m there's probably already 1m. today i was on the south side and up to 1700m.
Snow quality
quite heavy at the bottom, then heavy sleet further up (it was only sleet for at least 30 minutes on the ascent) and brittle. on the descent, this sleet snow is quite dull, but it still runs quite well on it. the amount of fresh snow is just within the comfort zone. although the tracks are very strenuous, they still go well over longer and steeper sections. on the descent, the sinking depth is between the knees and hips.
Risks
Wind intensity: High (40 – 60 km/h)
the brittle snow breaks very easily and in steeper areas there is a lot of sluff. i wouldn't go above the forest line, especially since you can't see any contours there. white-out, at least today. in addition, strong storm, from the north. the ascent track is blown over again within a short time.
Overall impression
it's winter again and will probably stay that way for a while. the amount of snow is now well above average for the time of year. it's still snowing and when the northern thaw is over, the conditions will be great. thanks a lot ullr ;-) i can't remember a 4-day northern thaw!!!!
