Snow report Tannheimer Valley, 12/01/2025
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Altitude
1000 - 1900m
Avalanche warning level
low (1)
Exposition
Snow condition
below 1300m rather poor, above that quite good for nov. on the descent 1x shark contact in open terrain. a prep. ski slope out at the bottom is a pretty good idea.
Snow quality
dust on crust! but only a little on a non-load-bearing one. after it thawed yesterday up to high altitudes and then probably rained, the old snow cover is capped, under the cap it's pretty much groundless and wet, as well as completely rutted. on top there is max. 5cm of fresh snow.
Risks
Wind intensity: No Wind (0 km/h)
sliding snow is the topic! descents everywhere, in every expo and at every altitude. for me rather more delicate than described in the lawi.
Overall impression
the third star is for the excellent weather compared to yesterday. the conditions are acceptable for nov, but will deteriorate daily due to the forecast plus degrees. the dec. sun was extremely "powerful" today (start in the valley +4°C, then t-shirt weather at the top) and will ensure spring conditions in expo-s over the course of the week.
