Snow condition

The amount of snow in the Tannheim mountains and in the Außerfern is decent for this time of year. Ski tours (partly also south-facing) can be started from valley locations. However, a starting point at over 1000 m above sea level is advisable. The warming during the day caused the snow cover in the valley and sunny areas to thaw during the day. On the shady side, the thermometer didn't really rise above 0 degrees today, even in the valley. On the tours, the mountain pine belts were also partially covered in snow.

On the descent today, we encountered a wild mixture of windswept snow, rain crust (from Friday's rain), powder and melted snow. All in all, it was good skiing. On the south side, the snow cover has thawed during the day up to 2000m above sea level, so you have to reckon with slush or a layer of harsh snow.

Risks

We thought the conditions were okay today. Yesterday, however, we abandoned our tour prematurely for fear of drifting snow. Today, due to the warming weather, we noticed snow slides on sun-exposed slopes (although these mostly date back to Friday). After the rain, the snow cover has stabilized again.

We went on two very nice ski tours yesterday and today in the beautiful weather with changeable snow

Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
