Snow condition
Göschenen, 0mm -> Airolo 1000mm of snow! That really says it all... South of the main Alpine ridge, there's really enough of the white now. High up in the Alps, the snow is still largely loose, partly on rocks that are hiding more or less nastily under the white mantle.
Snow quality
Eccezionale, as the Ticino sports fan would say! Above 2000m, set, silky-fine, hardly wind-influenced speed-powder. But only at the northern expos. Below 2000m, unfortunately, all expos are covered in melting hard snow or rain crust. Only this fact prevents me from awarding 5 points.
Risks
Low to moderate. You can feel with every step that you are walking on a rock-solid, well-consolidated and thick blanket of snow. I have rarely experienced such a positive impression of a snow cover in January. On steep south-facing slopes, the necessary attention must be paid to wet slides. The forecast snowfall is likely to exacerbate the situation in the short term. However, in contrast to other parts of the Alps, there is no need to worry about an insidious old snow problem.
Overall impression
Fantastico! The best weekend of the season so far in terms of snow and skiing! Unfortunately no downhill pictures. I simply forgot in the rush... ;)
The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.
Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
